Whatsapp-ing with the hamidons makes me rindu my kampung so much. It’s been so long since we all raya-ed together. Since my atok passed away, we hardly balik kampung. Semua kumpul in pj and klu blk pun my parents je balik since my dad suka balik masa hari kerja to avoid jam. Aaaaah so much memories
Among the things that I’ll never forget about my kampung:
1. Beratur to shower every morning and it starts early. There’s nearly 100 ppl in 1 house (that’s how big the hamidon family is) and somehow ada je auntie and uncle yg potong q. Ish sggh x disiplin :P and u mandi air kolah so it’s bloody cold! I used to squeal at the first jirus then after that ok la. Can tahan la jugak
2. Sampai2 je kampung, mesti chop tempat tidor guna toto family masing2 :D x kira la dlm bilik(very liimited), kat bilik makan, kat depan tv. then mlm semua berebut bantal and kusyen
3. Kelaparan tunggu breakfast sbb pakcik2 berkampung kat gerai. Ok xde la kelaparan but that is the normal joke. The ritual pagi in senggarang is subuh then all pakcik and budak yg dah bangun lepak kat luar, borak la, cari kumbang la then all the pakcik will collect order from the aunties apa nak makan for breakfast. But everytime mesti the uncles will start their breakfast at the gerai smbl tunggu the gerai prepare breakfast for the nearly 100 ppl and the makciks will go ‘manalaaaaa budak2 ni’. Then blk, they makan lagi :D ish pakcik2 aku
4. Listening to the cerita of the uncles masa kecik2. Hahaha hilarious! If u kenal my uncles u akan geleng kepala. When they all meet up together, semua jadi gila2 sbb the kepala - pak lim and pak hud has all these crazy ideas. And when the story telling session starts, habisla semua rahsia :D
5. Going out with my atok - plg memorable adalah pergi pantai to just jalan2 or makan kerang bakar and beli ikan kat pasar. He will be driving his mercedes around angkut his cucus and stopping everywhere because he seems to know everyone in the village. He always wants the best for the family esp when it comes to food. Klu blk, I’ll be eating the ikan yg I x pernah kenal but damn it’s so fresh. Damn sedap
6. Kedai ah seng - this kedai I think gila buat profit from the hamidons. Dr I kecik smpi the youngest niece/nephews tau kedai ah seng. It was our (the kids) version of heaven. Everytime pergi mesti pau the uncle/ auntie yg bawa. Toys ke, sweets ke (mine adlh vitagen, rocky, ding dang, nini cokolat celup, choki2 and tora. Nekmat!)
7. Makan in general. Maklumlah the equipment kat kampung is limited. So the lauk is always simple kampung food - which is so yummy yummy in my tummy. And my atok will always get the best products - ikan sayur daging everything.
8. Beraya kat rumah sedara. Actually I have no idea who we visit every raya. Ok la I know they are my dad’s families. Tp the exact name and relationship x tau :S yg I tau is to chop naik kereta mana, then the rombongan will drive ramai2 to the house. Sampai je salam2 then dengan muka x malu attack the kuih and keropok. But I know 1 destination family favorite I is 1 of my cousin’s atok’s house sbb dia mesti serve lempeng kelapa with sambal sardin/ikan bilis. Perghhhhhh! Bab makan sedap pandai lak kau ingat siapa. Ish ish ish sara x sedar diri
9. Roti bakar. There used to be this roti bakar place yg buat the best roti bakar. Everytime blk mesti beli. Sekali one day my atok found out that after they cut pork they used the same pisau to cut the bread. Aiseh man! Dah x leh makan
10. Kumpul duit raya. Since my dad’s family is huge. I think the uncles je dah 9 org. So kumpul duit raya masa kecik sungguhla masyhuk :D dh besar turn kena kasi alamak! Nasib baik cousin kecik2 x byk :P now understand my uncles kasi duit raya kat kami yg kecik2 ni dulu
11. Some gerais that my family always frequent otw to kampung or blk kl - kuih doraemon dekat muar, gerai asam pedas favourite ayah, nasi beriyani muar kat jambatan, kedai jual murtabak singapore, gerai tepi jalan jual pau 35sen (sedap gila ok!) *drool*
I wish my atok sempat jumpa harold. I can imagine him telling all sorts of stories from his experience to harold. And I know harold would have loved talking and spending time with him as much as I did. For harold to experience the kampung life that we’ve had. Tapi apa nak buat. Dah x sempat. We’ll try to make our own traditions, create our own memories and hopefully our traditions will be as great as the one in senggarang
